Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina
JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa, Aventura, Florida
We have eaten here a few times in the rather large dining room that happens to be very welcoming with comfortable chairs and attractive seating. There are hundreds of bottles on racks which create walls of wine. We all had cocktails to start, mine was called “Italian Vacation” consisting of Bianco Aperitif, Grapefruit Gin and Aperix. If I had three more of them, I might think that I was on the Amalfi cost!
The service was impeccable, although this last visit, it was hard to hear what the waiter was saying because everyone was having such a fun time. It is a jolly, boisterous, happy place! If you’re a curmudgeon, stay away!
For the table, there is a complementary appetizer of 3 different styles of French Fries cooked in duck fat, each with its accompanying dipping sauce. One was fried with rosemary, a second was dusted with onion, and the third had a bar-b-que flavor… a very tasty snack to enjoy with your cocktails!!
They offer a wide variety of steaks; you can order other meals as well, but this is not a steakhouse for nothing. They have a dry aged rib eye, a Tomahawk, a Delmonico Rib Eye, a Skirt Steak, a Strip Steak and a Filet Mignon.
I began my meal with a Spring Leek and Potato Soup (King Crab, Lemon Crème Fraiche). I inhaled it! Jon had the best Hudson Valley Foie Gras he had ever eaten! Another time we could order that with drinks at the bar! It is the kind of Foie Gras that you will not forget. Every time we visit Miami Beach, we will make sure to go to Bourbon for their Foie Gras.
One of our friends started with the Hand-Cut Prime Steak Tartare (Traditional Garnishes, Grilled Pita Bread) and the other had Michael's Tuna Tartare (Asian Pear, Pine Nuts, Habanero, Quail Egg, Sesame Oil).
One friend had a 20 oz Dry-Aged Bone-In Rib Eye, as did I. Jon had the 14 oz New York Strip steak. Our other friend had the Salmon, which she said was prepared perfectly. They both loved it all and said that this was one of their favorite restaurants on the trip.
The sides are similarly excellent, for example, we shared two choices with the other couple: the Grilled Asparagus (Marcona Almonds, Charred Lemon Vinaigrette) and the Sautéed Mushrooms (Fine Herbs), of which, I believe, there was a variety mixed together. The latter were recommended by the waiter and were scrumptious!
To close, three of us had espresso martinis (2 were decaf!).
I highly recommend this restaurant for a fun time out accompanying a very good meal!
