This restaurant should not be missed. It was recommended to me a few years ago by a friend. I found the cuisine to be rather authentic – if you have an Italian grandmother (nonna), she would cook such dishes. There are some entrees I have never seen in any other restaurant, such as Risotto Agli Asparagi, which is carnaroli rice, asparagi, Parmigiana crema, and Rabbit in Potacchio, which is bone in hind legs, wine-herbs, potatoes and rapini.
It is located at the end of a small strip mall. They have a nice selection of wines and cocktails, although the bar is not visible. The place is very comfortable and welcoming.
Jon and I were there recently on a Tuesday night for an early dinner because the couple we were with like to eat early. There were a few tables occupied at the time (5 O’clock). Jon ordered the Crab Bisque for his appetizer. I wasn’t very hungry and did not intend to order anything at first. However, after I tasted his, I ordered some for myself!
My entrée was my usual, which I love. It is Bianca Bolognese: ground pork and veal over home-made pappardelle in a very light wine sauce. I liked it so much I decided to make it myself. But I didn’t have a meat grinder, so I spent lots of time cutting up a veal into tiny pieces by hand and tried to duplicate the dish. It was good, but I’ll stick to ordering it there and not make it myself. Jon had Short Ribs Ravioli, which is home-made with caramelized onions, wine sauce and Parmigiano shavings. He finished it off so fast the rest of us were still eating when he was done.
Our friends had salads for their appetizer, which came with their meals. She had Chicken Sorrento, which is battered chicken, grilled eggplant, marinara and fresh mozzarella. She is of Italian descent and said it was the best marinara sauce she ever eaten. I should have tried it but didn’t (I was getting stuffed as their portions are sizable), so I will have to try it the next time! Her husband ordered Seafood Fra Diablo and said it was delicious. By the way, they had never been there before, but said that they definitely would be returning!
She didn’t order dessert because she loves to stay trim. I caved and ordered cannoli for dessert. I ate one, and took the other two home for breakfast (yum!).
